Ikusasa Grain Mills is raising a R48.0 million total project — R10.0 million of sponsor equity alongside R16.0 million of senior debt, a R14.0 million blended-finance grant and an R8.0 million working capital facility — to establish a 3 tonne-per-hour white maize mill at Vryburg in the North West maize belt, producing fortified super maize meal, samp and hominy chop for the regional and informal trade at 14,400 tonnes milled a year, 76% Black-owned at Level 2 contributor status. Headline revenue and EBITDA are preserved exactly; everything below EBITDA is independently re-derived (component depreciation, full cash interest, 27% SA tax with assessed-loss relief, working capital) with the balance sheet tying to zero every year. This plan sets out the market and industry analysis, the milling process and product range, unit economics, grain procurement and price risk, operations and plant, sales and distribution, quality, food safety and fortification, transformation, community and ESG, the funding structure and use of funds, working-capital adequacy, the implementation programme, competitive positioning, full financial projections, debt-service coverage and break-even, returns and sensitivities, risk analysis and independent findings, the SWOT and strategic analysis, the growth path and exit, and the key performance indicators funders will track. Use the contents below to navigate the plan.

Financial snapshot

Two headline charts from the plan. Full projections and all visualisations are in Section 15: Financial Plan & Projections.

Figure 1. The milling balance. Every tonne of maize is converted into a product basket; the spread between the two is the business.
Figure 2. An oversupplied, concentrated industry — and the opening within it.
