ESG, Rehabilitation and Community Impact

Jump to section

A quarry is a visible, land-disturbing operation; managing environment, community and rehabilitation well is both a licence-to-operate necessity and a source of development-finance appeal.

Environmental, social and governance

  • Environmental: dust suppression, water recycling in the wash plant, noise and blast-vibration control, and progressive rehabilitation of mined-out benches; a funded rehabilitation provision is maintained over the life of mine.
  • Social: local employment (the majority of the workforce drawn from surrounding communities), SMME haulage and services, skills development and SLP-mandated community projects.
  • Governance: board oversight, transparent royalty and tax payment, and enablement of public infrastructure, roads, housing and water, through reliable material supply.

The manufactured-sand strategy carries a direct environmental dividend: every tonne of compliant crusher sand sold displaces a tonne of river sand whose extraction damages watercourses. This substitution is a measurable ESG benefit and a differentiator for institutional and development-finance investors.
