Market Strategy
The Company will pursue a diversified multi-market strategy to mitigate concentration risk. Excessive dependence on any single market, particularly China, has been identified as a systemic risk for South African macadamia producers. Lowveld Gold’s target market mix at steady state is as…
6.1 Target Markets and Diversification
The Company will pursue a diversified multi-market strategy to mitigate concentration risk. Excessive dependence on any single market, particularly China, has been identified as a systemic risk for South African macadamia producers. Lowveld Gold’s target market mix at steady state is as follows: China 35% (in-shell and kernel), United States 25% (whole kernel and halves), European Union 15% (kernel and oil), domestic South Africa 15% (retail products and oil), and other Asian and Middle Eastern markets 10%.
6.2 Pricing Strategy
Pricing will be benchmarked to the Global Macadamias notional pricelist, adjusted for quality premiums. As of the 2026 season, whole kernel is priced at approximately US$14.10/kg and halves at US$9.04/kg. The Company’s focus on whole-kernel output through superior cultivar selection and optimised cracking technology will ensure maximum exposure to the premium price tier. Conservative price assumptions of US$13.50/kg have been used in the financial model base case.
6.3 Distribution Channels
Export sales will be managed through established commodity traders and direct relationships with large-scale confectionery and snack manufacturers. Domestic retail distribution will be managed through partnerships with major South African supermarket chains including Woolworths, Checkers and Spar. The Company will also establish an e-commerce channel for direct-to-consumer sales of branded premium products, leveraging the growing online grocery market. A dedicated export marketing team, led by Thandi Nkosi, will maintain relationships with key buyers across all target markets.
6.4 Brand Positioning
The “Lowveld Gold” brand will be positioned around three pillars: provenance (single-origin Mpumalanga Lowveld), quality (whole kernel, cold-pressed oil) and sustainability (carbon-negative processing, community empowerment). This positioning will resonate with the growing global consumer preference for ethically sourced, premium natural products. Brand development costs of ZAR 3.5 million have been budgeted in the first three years.
