23.1 Employment Creation

Pork Master Farms will create approximately 65 to 80 permanent employment positions, the majority of which will be filled from the local community in the Potchefstroom and Tlokwe municipal area. In addition to permanent employment, the construction phase will generate an estimated 120 to 150 temporary construction jobs over a 10-month period. 23.3 Contribution to Food Security

South Africa faces ongoing food security challenges, with a significant portion of the population unable to consistently access affordable, nutritious food. Pork is one of the most affordable sources of animal protein available to South African consumers, and the expansion of local pork production directly contributes to national food security objectives. At full production capacity, Pork Master Farms will produce approximately 1,800 to 2,000 tonnes of pork per annum, sufficient to supply protein to approximately 150,000 to 200,000 consumers on a per capita consumption basis.

23.4 Alignment with National Development Objectives

The project is well-aligned with several of the South African government’s key development priorities as articulated in the National Development Plan (NDP) 2030. Specifically, the project contributes to Chapter 6 (An Integrated and Inclusive Rural Economy) through agricultural investment and rural employment creation, Chapter 3 (Economy and Employment) through productive investment and job creation, and the broader objectives of the Agriculture and Agro-processing Master Plan (AAMP) which seeks to increase agricultural output, create employment, and reduce food imports.
