To establish a commercial garlic farming enterprise in Piketberg, Western Cape, targeting R28–35 million in steady-state revenue, a 25–28% IRR and a ~4-year payback.
SilverClove Farms (Pty) Ltd is a proposed commercial garlic farming enterprise to be established in Piketberg, a premier agricultural region in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The Company seeks to capitalise on the significant and growing demand for high-quality, locally produced garlic within the South African domestic market and across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
The South African garlic market presents a compelling opportunity. National production currently stands at approximately 14,000–16,000 tonnes per annum, yet rising health consciousness, urbanisation, and expanding middle-class consumption patterns continue to drive demand growth. A significant portion of domestic garlic consumption is currently met through imports, predominantly from China, creating a clear import-substitution opportunity for a well-capitalised, professionally managed local producer.
1.1 Business Concept
SilverClove Farms will establish and operate an 80-hectare commercial garlic farm utilising modern mechanised farming practices, precision agriculture technology, and drip irrigation systems. The enterprise will produce premium-grade garlic bulbs for three distinct market channels: domestic fresh produce markets and supermarket supply chains; wholesale supply to food processors and manufacturers; and regional export markets across Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe.
