2.1 Legal Structure & Ownership

Urban Jazz Premium Liquors (Pty) Ltd is incorporated as a private company under the South African Companies Act (No. 71 of 2008). The company is 100% black-owned, qualifying as a Level 1 B-BBEE contributor. This ownership structure provides preferential access to government funding programmes, supplier development budgets from major beverage producers, and enterprise-development procurement targets set by corporate customers.

The founder, Sipho Nkosi, serves as Managing Director and brings direct experience in retail operations, supply-chain management, and community engagement. The management structure is designed to be lean during the startup phase, with the founder assuming dual responsibility for strategic direction and day-to-day operations, supported by a Store Manager responsible for floor supervision, inventory control, and staff scheduling.

2.2 Vision, Mission & Values

Vision: To become the most trusted neighbourhood
liquor retailer in Gauteng, recognised for product quality, competitive
pricing, and exceptional customer service.
Mission: To deliver a convenient and diverse
beverage shopping experience while maintaining full compliance with
South African liquor legislation, creating sustainable employment, and
contributing positively to the communities we serve.

Core Values

  • Community First – We operate as a responsible neighbour, prioritising compliance, moderation messaging, and local economic empowerment.

  • Quality & Variety – We curate a product range spanning value, mainstream, and premium tiers to serve every customer segment.

  • Integrity – Transparent pricing, honest marketing, and zero tolerance for under-age sales define our ethical framework.

  • Customer Experience – Clean, secure, well-lit premises with friendly, knowledgeable staff create a welcoming environment.

  • Operational Excellence – Tight inventory management, data-driven promotions, and continuous process improvement drive profitability.

2.3 Business Model

Urban Jazz Premium Liquors operates a straightforward retail model: purchase alcoholic beverages from licensed distributors and producers at wholesale prices, and sell to end consumers at a retail margin. Revenue is generated exclusively through over-the-counter sales at the physical store location. The model is capital-light after initial setup, as inventory is the primary ongoing investment, and supplier payment terms of 14–30 days provide a natural working-capital float.

Supplementary revenue streams include supplier-funded promotional fees (gondola-end placements, branded refrigerator sponsorships, and co-branded marketing materials) and event-supply contracts for weddings, corporate functions, and community celebrations. These ancillary streams contribute an estimated 3–5% of total revenue but carry significantly higher margins.
