2.2 Business Model

Ironveld operates a vertically-oriented cow–calf breeding and finishing model. The Company breeds cattle on natural and improved pastures, retains heifers for herd expansion, sells weaner calves to commercial feedlots, finishes select animals on-farm for direct supply to abattoirs, and markets premium breeding stock to other commercial and emerging farmers. This diversified revenue model reduces dependence on any single market channel and enables the Company to optimise returns by directing animals to the highest-value outlet based on prevailing market conditions.

  • Weaner and Feeder Sales: Calves weaned at 7–8 months (220–260 kg) sold to feedlots at prevailing auction prices. This is the primary revenue channel in the early years.

  • Finished Cattle: Select animals finished on-farm to 450–500 kg live weight and sold directly to abattoirs and meat processors at premium prices.

  • Breeding Stock Sales: Registered and commercial breeding heifers and bulls sold to other farmers, commanding significant premiums over slaughter cattle.

  • Premium Branded Beef (Phase 2): Development of a branded, naturally-raised beef product targeting premium retail and hospitality markets, to be launched from Year 3.

2.3 Legal and Regulatory Framework

The Company will comply with the Animal Diseases Act (No. 35 of 1984), the Meat Safety Act (No. 40 of 2000), the Stock Theft Act, the Animal Identification Act, the Agricultural Product Standards Act, the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA), and applicable labour, tax, and B-BBEE legislation. All cattle will be registered with the National Animal Recording and Improvement Scheme (SA Stud Book) where applicable, and the farm will maintain full NRPO (National Red Meat Producers’ Organisation) compliance.
