13.1 Job Creation
SafeRide will create 29 direct jobs in Year 1, growing to 85 by Year 5. The company will prioritise employment equity, with a target of 70% of employees drawn from previously disadvantaged groups. In addition to direct employment, SafeRide’s operations will support indirect employment across the value chain including panel beaters, towing services, roadside assistance providers, and technology contractors.
13.2 B-BBEE and Transformation
With 75% Black ownership (40% Black male, 35% Black female), SafeRide is positioned as a Level 2 B-BBEE contributor from inception. The company will further enhance its B-BBEE scorecard through skills development programmes, enterprise and supplier development initiatives supporting Black-owned SMMEs in the automotive repair and technology sectors, and socio-economic development contributions equivalent to 1% of net profit after tax.
13.3 Insurance Inclusion
SafeRide’s affordable product range, digital distribution, and flexible payment options (including weekly and fortnightly debit orders) are designed to extend insurance access to underserved market segments, including lower-income vehicle owners and gig economy workers who are currently excluded from traditional insurance markets.
13.4 Road Safety Contribution
SafeRide will contribute to road safety through educational content on safe driving practices, partnering with road safety organisations, incentivising safe driving behaviour through premium discounts for vehicles fitted with tracking and telematics devices, and providing post-accident trauma counselling referrals.
13.5 Environmental Responsibility
SafeRide will adopt environmentally responsible business practices including prioritising digital-first processes to reduce paper consumption by an estimated 90% compared to traditional insurers, partnering with panel beaters that use environmentally compliant paint and repair processes, promoting the use of quality recycled parts in vehicle repairs where appropriate and with policyholder consent, and implementing energy-efficient office practices including solar power supplementation to mitigate load shedding impacts.
