The closing investment case and the ask – the R57 million initial funding package across equity and senior equipment-finance debt underpinning Nala AgriServices.
Nala AgriServices is a bankable, asset-backed agricultural-services
platform positioned squarely in front of three durable tailwinds: a
recovering South African agricultural sector, a structural mechanisation
deficit, and the fastest-growing precision-farming market on the
continent. Its integrated four-line model earns recurring, seasonal,
contracted revenue; it is conservatively geared and secured against a
liquid fleet; and it delivers genuine development impact that unlocks
blended capital and empowerment-driven contracts.
The plan does not hide its strains. Ramp-year losses and sub-1.0×
coverage are real, and a meaningful part of equity value depends on
delivery and the exit. But each of these is structurally mitigated — by
grace periods, a debt-service reserve, revolver headroom and a sponsor
standby — and the business turns profitable in FY2029, delevers to net
cash by FY2031, and returns 32% to equity even under a combined downside
stress.
R35m equity and a R22m senior equipment-finance term
loan at financial close, supported by a R15m committed revolving
working-capital facility and two pre-committed expansion tranches
(Tranche B R14m, Tranche C R10m). In return: a conservatively-structured position in a
high-growth, empowerment-aligned platform with a clear path to
profitability, rapid deleveraging, and a well-defined strategic-exit
horizon.
