Products & Services
The service lines – contract mechanisation, precision-farming and agronomy services – and the pricing and revenue contribution underpinning Nala AgriServices.
Nala’s four service lines are engineered to interlock. Each stands on
its own commercially, but the whole is worth more than the sum of the
parts: a single client relationship, one field team’s logistics, and one
data platform serve all four, which is what allows Nala to price
competitively while earning an attractive blended margin.
5.1 Service line 1 — Contract mechanisation
The foundation of the business. Using a modern,
professionally-maintained fleet of tractors, precision planters and
combine harvesters, Nala performs tillage, planting and harvesting on a
per-hectare, per-operation basis. Blended pricing averages approximately
R1,500 per hectare in FY2027, escalating around 6% annually with input
and fuel inflation. The fleet is scheduled centrally to maximise
utilisation across the planting and harvest windows, and every operation
is GPS-logged for the client record.
- Tillage & land preparation — conventional
and conservation-tillage passes, matched to the client’s agronomic
programme. - Precision planting — variable-rate seeding with
row-level placement accuracy, feeding the season’s as-planted
map. - Harvesting — combine services timed to moisture
and maturity, with yield mapping captured at the header.
5.2 Service line 2 — Precision application & drone services
Nala’s SACAA-certified drone fleet delivers targeted spraying
(herbicide, pesticide and foliar), variable-rate application, and crop
scouting using multispectral and thermal sensors. Blended pricing
averages about R360 per hectare in FY2027. Beyond the direct fuel, drift
and terrain advantages of drone application, the scouting data —
NDVI/NDRE health indices, water-stress and early-disease maps — feeds
directly into the agronomy service, closing the loop from diagnosis to
treatment.
Diagnose — multispectral/thermal scouting identifies stress, nutrient
deficiency and disease zone-by-zone. Prescribe — agronomists convert imagery into variable-rate
prescriptions for seed, fertiliser and chemistry. Apply — drones and VRA-equipped ground rigs execute the prescription
precisely, only where needed. Verify — follow-up scouting confirms response and updates the field
record for next season.
5.3 Service line 3 — Agronomy, advisory & digital
A team of qualified agronomists provides soil testing, fertility and
crop-protection planning, and season-long advisory on a retainer basis,
supported by a digital farm-management dashboard offered on
subscription. The dashboard consolidates each field’s soil results,
as-planted maps, scouting imagery, application records and yield data
into a single multi-season record — the proprietary data asset that
underpins client retention and, ultimately, enterprise value. Agronomy
revenue grows from R3.0m in FY2027 to R12.4m in FY2031.
5.4 Service line 4 — Input aggregation & distribution
Nala aggregates demand across its client base to procure seed,
fertiliser and crop protection at scale, distributing to farmers on a
margin basis. This line is deliberately run at a thin gross margin — it
is a relationship and convenience play that anchors the client to the
wider Nala programme, rather than a profit centre in its own right.
Because it is the most working-capital-intensive line, it is funded by
the dedicated revolving facility and is treated conservatively
throughout the model, with revenue recognised at full invoiced value and
its low margin transparently reflected.
5.5 Bundling and cross-sell
The commercial engine is the bundle. A farmer who contracts Nala for
combining is offered precision spraying; a spraying client is offered
agronomy; an agronomy client is offered input aggregation. Each
additional line raises revenue per client, deepens switching costs, and
improves fleet and team utilisation. Management targets a rising share
of clients taking two or more service lines over the plan horizon.
