Karoo Prime Lamb Farms will produce and market the following products:
6.1 Lamb Meat (Primary Product)
The primary revenue driver will be the production of slaughter-ready lambs. Lambs will be raised on natural Karoo veld grazing, supplemented with feed concentrates during the final finishing phase to achieve optimal carcass weight and grade. Target specifications include:
| Specification | Target |
|---|---|
| Slaughter Age | 4–6 months |
| Live Weight at Sale | 38–45 kg |
| Target Carcass Grade | A2/A3 (SAMIC grading) |
| Dressing Percentage | 46–50% |
| Target Price per kg (live weight) | R 42–R 48 per kg |
6.2 Mutton
Cull ewes and older sheep that have exited the breeding programme will be sold for mutton at prevailing market prices. Approximately 15–20% of the ewe flock will be culled annually based on age, fertility performance, and physical condition, providing a steady secondary income stream.
6.3 Breeding Stock
Superior genetics will be a hallmark of the operation. High-performance breeding rams and replacement ewes will be made available for sale to commercial and emerging farmers. Breeding stock will be selected based on estimated breeding values (EBVs) for growth rate, fertility, and carcass quality. Premium breeding rams are expected to command prices of R 8,000–R 25,000 per head depending on genetic merit.
6.4 Wool
Merino and Dohne Merino sheep in the flock will produce an annual wool clip as a supplementary income stream. Wool will be marketed through established brokers such as BKB or OVK at prevailing auction prices. Average fleece weight is estimated at 3.5–4.5 kg per sheep, with projected prices of R 85–R 110 per kilogram for quality Merino wool.
