19.1 Employment Creation

At full capacity, RedHarvest will employ approximately 45 permanent staff and up to 180 seasonal workers, creating meaningful employment in a region characterised by high unemployment. The farm will prioritise local recruitment and invest in skills development, with a target of allocating 2% of annual payroll to accredited agricultural training programmes. This investment supports the company’s B-BBEE skills development scorecard requirements and contributes to building local agricultural capacity.

RedHarvest is committed to contributing to the Musina community through enterprise development support for local small-scale farmers and service providers, procurement of supplies and services from local businesses where commercially viable, support for community food security initiatives, and engagement with local schools and agricultural colleges for internship and work experience programmes.

19.3 Environmental Sustainability

Environmental stewardship is a core business value. The company’s environmental management strategy includes: water-efficient drip irrigation reducing consumption by 40% versus conventional methods; integrated pest management (IPM) minimising agrochemical usage; soil health management through crop rotation, cover cropping, and organic matter application; responsible waste management including plastic mulch recycling; energy efficiency measures including solar power generation for the packhouse (planned Year 3); and compliance with all environmental impact assessment (EIA) requirements and conditions.
