Urban Jazz Premium Liquors is not merely a commercial venture; it is a catalyst for local economic development, job creation, and community empowerment.
22.1 Direct Employment Impact
The business will create 7 direct, permanent jobs in Year 1, with 2–3 positions added per new store. All positions filled from the local community. At an average annual salary of R90,000 per employee, total annual payroll injection into the local economy exceeds R630,000 in Year 1, rising to over R1 million by Year 3.
22.2 Indirect Economic Multiplier
For every Rand spent on wages, an estimated R1.50–R2.00 of additional economic activity is generated through the local multiplier effect. This implies an indirect economic contribution of R945,000–R1,260,000 annually from payroll alone. Additional indirect benefits include rent payments to the property owner (R360,000+ annually), supplier payments to beverage producers (R4+ million annually), payments to local service providers, and comprehensive tax contributions.
22.3 Responsible Trading Commitment
Urban Jazz Premium Liquors is committed to responsible alcohol trading as a core principle. The framework includes strict age-verification protocols with regular mystery-shopper audits, prominent moderation messaging, SANCA partnership for community substance-abuse awareness, refusal of service to intoxicated persons, advertising compliance, and contribution of 1% of annual net profit from Year 3 onward to community-based substance-abuse prevention programmes.
22.4 Enterprise & Supplier Development
The informal-trader programme described in Section 13.4 directly supports the development of small businesses in the township economy. By providing bulk pricing, credit facilities, and delivery services to tavern and shebeen operators, Urban Jazz Premium Liquors enables these micro-enterprises to improve profitability and formalise operations. An estimated 15–25 informal traders will benefit from the programme within the first two years. This contribution is measurable under the Enterprise Development and Supplier Development elements of the B-BBEE scorecard, enhancing the company’s overall BEE rating and its attractiveness to corporate procurement programmes.
22.5 Tax & Fiscal Contribution
The business will make significant tax and fiscal contributions to the South African fiscus. In addition to corporate income tax (projected at R168,156 in Year 5), the business will remit VAT on all sales, PAYE on employee wages, UIF and SDL contributions, and Workmen’s Compensation premiums. The total fiscal contribution, including indirect taxes embedded in beverage prices, is estimated at R600,000–R800,000 annually by Year 3. These contributions fund public services and infrastructure that directly benefit the communities in which Urban Jazz Premium Liquors operates.
