15.1 Phase 1: Establish & Optimise (Year 1–2)
The first two years focus exclusively on establishing the flagship store, building the customer base, optimising the product mix, and achieving consistent profitability. Key milestones include reaching monthly break-even by Month 8, achieving Year 1 revenue of R5.4 million, building a WhatsApp customer database of 3,000+ contacts, establishing reliable supplier relationships with favourable terms, and developing the Urban Jazz Rewards loyalty programme with 1,000+ active members.
15.2 Phase 2: Consolidate & Prepare (Year 2–3)
Years 2–3 focus on consolidating profitability, refining operating procedures into replicable playbooks, and preparing the infrastructure for multi-store expansion. Key initiatives include hiring and training a Store Manager capable of operating independently, documenting all standard operating procedures for replication, building cash reserves to R500,000+ for second-store funding, identifying and evaluating potential second-store locations across Gauteng, and establishing a wholesale/event-supply revenue stream contributing 5–10% of revenue.
15.3 Phase 3: Expand (Year 3–5)
The expansion phase leverages the proven operating model to open 1–2 additional stores in high-potential locations across Gauteng. Targeted locations include Soweto (largest township economy in Gauteng), Tembisa (rapidly growing township market), and Vereeniging/Vanderbijlpark (underserved southern Gauteng corridor). Each new store will require an investment of R1.2–1.5 million (lower than the flagship due to established supplier relationships and replicable systems), funded from accumulated cash flow and, if required, a modest bank facility.
15.4 Long-Term Vision (Year 5+)
The long-term vision is to build Urban Jazz Premium Liquors into a recognisable retail brand operating 5–10 stores across Gauteng, with potential for national expansion or franchising. Additional strategic options include launching an e-commerce and delivery platform to capture the growing online alcohol-ordering market, developing a wholesale distribution arm supplying smaller independent retailers and taverns, exploring franchise model opportunities to accelerate geographic expansion with lower capital requirements, and evaluating strategic partnerships with or acquisition by a national liquor retail chain to deliver exit value for investors.
