SASSA Grant Payment Schedule for August 2026

The confirmed payment dates for every grant, current amounts, the SRD R370 window, and everything you need to know before heading to a pay point.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed the official grant payment dates for August 2026. Permanent grants are paid over four days in the first week of the month, while the SRD R370 grant follows its usual separate batch at month-end. Here is the full schedule, the current grant amounts, and what beneficiaries need to know.

Official Payment Dates for August 2026

SASSA staggers payments across separate days to reduce congestion at ATMs, retailers, and pay points. Older persons are paid first, followed by disability grants, then children’s grants, with a fourth day set aside for beneficiaries flagged for reviews.

Money stays safely in your account once deposited, so there is no need to withdraw everything on the payment date. Beneficiaries collecting cash are advised to wait a few days after their date to avoid the busiest queues.

What the Fourth Payment Day Means

The fourth payment day (7 August 2026) is not a general payment date. It applies only to beneficiaries selected for a grant review or eLife Certification. SASSA sends these beneficiaries an SMS in advance — if you have not received a notification, your grant is paid on your normal category date.

If you are paid on the fourth day, you are generally required to visit your nearest SASSA office to complete the review; failing to do so can lead to your grant being suspended. Reviews and eLife Certification are carried out under the Social Assistance Act to confirm continued eligibility, prevent payments to deceased or ineligible people, and detect fraud. Keep your contact details and address up to date, and respond promptly when contacted.

SRD R370 Grant: August 2026 Window

The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R370 grant does not follow the early-month schedule. It is processed in a separate batch near the end of the month, and SASSA does not publish a fixed SRD calendar. For August 2026, payments are expected to begin processing in the final week, with your exact date depending on your batch number, payment method, and bank processing times.

Before travelling to a pay point, check your status first at srd.sassa.gov.za or via WhatsApp on 082 046 8553. Only collect once your status shows Approved or Payment in Progress for August. Bank-account recipients usually receive funds a few days after their batch is processed; those collecting at retailers should wait for the confirmation SMS.

Current Grant Amounts (2026/27)

The amounts below took effect on 1 April 2026 following the National Budget and apply throughout the 2026/27 financial year. Increases are applied automatically — approved beneficiaries do not need to reapply.

Grant Monthly amount (2026/27)
Older Persons Grant (60–74) R2,400
Older Persons Grant (75+) R2,420
Disability Grant R2,400
Care Dependency Grant R2,400
War Veterans Grant R2,420
Foster Child Grant R1,290
Child Support Grant R580
Child Support Grant top-up (orphan/kinship) R280
Grant-in-Aid R580
SRD Grant R370

The SRD R370 grant remains frozen for another year, while the larger permanent grants received increases of R20 to R80. The Grant-in-Aid is not a standalone grant — it is an additional amount paid on top of an old age, disability, or war veterans grant for beneficiaries who need full-time care.

Does National Women’s Day Affect August Payments?

National Women’s Day falls on 9 August 2026, a Sunday, so the public holiday is observed on Monday, 10 August 2026. This sits between the permanent grant payments (4–7 August) and the SRD batch at month-end, so it is not expected to affect either payment cycle directly. Expect longer queues at ATMs, retailers, and post offices around the long weekend if you plan to collect then.

Postbank Card Migration Deadline

⚠️ Deadline: 31 August 2026

Beneficiaries still using the old SASSA Gold Card must migrate to the new Postbank Black Card by 31 August 2026. Take your valid South African ID to a participating retailer (Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer, or Spar) to collect a replacement — your existing balance transfers automatically. Confirm current details through official SASSA or Postbank channels, as migration arrangements can change.

How to Check Your Status and Avoid Problems

Permanent grants: confirm your grant is active and banking details are correct. Bank payments typically reflect within one to three business days.
SRD R370: check your status at srd.sassa.gov.za or WhatsApp 082 046 8553 before travelling anywhere.
Keep details current: outdated contact or address info can cause missed review notifications and risk suspension.
Beware of scams: SASSA never charges for its services. Ignore “double payment” messages or fee requests — these are almost always fraudulent.

What to do if your payment doesn’t arrive

Wait two to three business days to allow for bank processing before acting. Then confirm your bank account is active and your details are up to date. If it still has not reflected, visit your nearest SASSA office with your ID document, or call the toll-free helpline.
