5.1 Product Portfolio

5.1.1 Fresh Whole Tilapia (Phase 1 – Year 1)

The primary product offering during Phase 1 will be fresh, whole Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), harvested at a target weight of 500–800 grams per fish. Fish will be sold live, chilled on ice, or vacuum-packed for distribution to formal and informal market channels. Quality grading will follow international standards with Grade A (>600g, uniform colour, no defects) commanding a premium price of R85–90/kg.

5.1.2 Processed Tilapia Fillets (Phase 2 – Year 3)

From Year 3, the Company will introduce value-added processed fillets to capture higher margins in the retail and food service segments. Fillets will be produced in a HACCP-certified on-site processing facility and distributed through established cold chain networks. Target fillet recovery rate is 33–35% of whole fish weight, with by-products (heads, frames, offal) sold to fishmeal processors or pet food manufacturers.

5.1.3 Fingerling Supply (Phase 2 – Year 3)

The on-site hatchery, once operational, will produce surplus high-quality sex-reversed (all-male) fingerlings for sale to other tilapia farmers in South Africa and the SADC region. All-male populations are preferred commercially as they grow 30–40% faster than mixed-sex populations. Target fingerling price: R1.50–R2.50 per fingerling depending on size.

5.1.4 Aquaculture Tourism (Phase 3 – Year 4)

Leveraging Bela-Bela’s established tourism infrastructure, the Company will develop farm tours, educational programmes, and catch-and-cook experiences as a supplementary revenue stream and brand-building initiative.
