Expansion and Growth Strategy
DriveHub’s domestic expansion strategy follows a hub-and-spoke model, establishing regional presence in South Africa’s major metropolitan areas before extending coverage to secondary cities and rural markets. The expansion is driven by dealer density, population size, and vehicle ownership rates.
12.1 Domestic Expansion
DriveHub’s domestic expansion strategy follows a hub-and-spoke model, establishing regional presence in South Africa’s major metropolitan areas before extending coverage to secondary cities and rural markets. The expansion is driven by dealer density, population size, and vehicle ownership rates.
-
Year 1: Gauteng (Johannesburg, Pretoria, East Rand, West Rand) – targeting the province that accounts for approximately 50% of national vehicle sales and the highest concentration of registered dealerships.
-
Year 2: Western Cape (Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Paarl) and KwaZulu-Natal (Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Richards Bay) – South Africa’s second and third largest automotive markets.
-
Year 3: Eastern Cape (Port Elizabeth, East London), Free State (Bloemfontein), and Limpopo (Polokwane) – completing coverage of all major metropolitan areas.
-
Year 4–5: Full national coverage including Mpumalanga, North West, and Northern Cape, with dedicated regional dealer relationship managers in each province.
12.2 Regional Expansion (SADC)
From Year 3, DriveHub will evaluate expansion into neighbouring Southern African Development Community (SADC) markets, beginning with Namibia and Botswana (which share strong automotive trade links with South Africa and have established used vehicle import markets), followed by Mozambique, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Regional expansion will be pursued through a capital-light model leveraging the existing technology platform with localised content, currency, and regulatory adaptations.
12.3 Product Expansion
DriveHub’s product roadmap includes several adjacent opportunities that leverage the platform’s user base and technology infrastructure:
-
Vehicle Service and Maintenance Marketplace: Connecting vehicle owners with accredited service centres for scheduled maintenance, repairs, and roadside assistance.
-
Parts and Accessories Marketplace: An adjacent marketplace for new and used vehicle parts, targeting the aftermarket segment.
-
Fleet Management SaaS: A subscription-based fleet management platform for corporate clients, offering vehicle tracking, maintenance scheduling, cost analysis, and compliance reporting.
-
Vehicle Data and Analytics: Monetising aggregated and anonymised platform data through market intelligence reports sold to OEMs, dealerships, financial institutions, and government agencies.
-
Electric Vehicle (EV) Specialisation: Building dedicated EV listing categories, charging station mapping, and EV-specific financing and insurance products in anticipation of South Africa’s growing EV adoption.
