Competitive Landscape

The competitive landscape within the rabbit category and against the broader protein basket, and the competitive positioning summary underpinning Karoo Rabbit Protein.

KRP competes on two fronts: within the small domestic rabbit
category, where it would be the first integrated operator at scale; and
against the broader protein basket, where rabbit must win share of plate
from poultry, pork and red meat. The competitive strategy differs by
front.

4.1 Within the Rabbit Category

Existing domestic participants are sub-scale and specialised —
breeders, trainers, regional clusters — none of whom controls the full
chain. The decisive competitive lesson from the category’s history is
that fragmented producers without owned, bankable offtake are fragile.
KRP’s integration is therefore not merely an efficiency play; it is the
competitive moat. By owning genetics, processing and brand, and by
guaranteeing offtake, KRP secures supply that competitors cannot easily
replicate and insulates itself from the offtake-failure risk that has
repeatedly destabilised the sector.

4.2 Against the Broader Protein Basket

Against poultry and red meat, rabbit cannot compete on
price-per-kilogram at commodity level. It competes instead on
differentiation — leanness, sustainability, food-safety and disease-free
provenance — and on resilience when competing proteins suffer
biosecurity shocks. The dual-brand structure lets KRP straddle two
positions: a genuine premium at the top of the market and an accessible
frozen format for value-conscious buyers, the latter benefiting from the
animal’s underlying feed efficiency.

4.3 Competitive Positioning Summary
