17.1 Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE)

ProNutri Dairy is committed to achieving and maintaining meaningful B-BBEE compliance, targeting a Level 2 contributor rating within the first two years of operation. The B-BBEE strategy encompasses equity ownership (15% held by a B-BBEE partner and community trust), management control (majority black representation at executive and senior management level), skills development (annual investment of 3% of payroll in accredited training programmes), enterprise and supplier development (preferential procurement from black-owned and black women-owned suppliers, and a dedicated supplier development programme for emerging dairy farmers), and socio-economic development (community nutrition education and school dairy donation programmes).

17.2 Environmental Sustainability

  • Energy: Solar PV installation targeting 20% reduction in grid electricity consumption; energy-efficient processing equipment; LED lighting throughout facility

  • Water: On-site water recycling targeting 30% reuse; rainwater harvesting; low-water CIP systems; borehole supplementation

  • Waste: Zero-waste-to-landfill target by Year 3; whey recovery for animal feed; biogas generation from effluent treatment; recyclable packaging commitment

  • Carbon: Carbon footprint baseline measurement in Year 1; target 25% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by Year 5

17.3 Job Creation and Skills Development

The Company will create 148 direct employment positions by Year 1, growing to 333 by Year 5. Indirect job creation across the supply chain, including dairy farming, transport, packaging, and distribution, is estimated at approximately 1,200 positions by Year 5. The Company will partner with the George TVET College and the AgriSETA to provide accredited learnerships and apprenticeships in dairy processing, food science, and refrigeration engineering.
