Regulatory & Compliance Framework
The domestic regulation and the export regulation underpinning the regulatory and compliance framework.
Operating a formal abattoir and exporting animal protein is a heavily
regulated activity. Full compliance is both a licence-to-operate
requirement and a core competitive moat, since it is precisely the
barrier the informal sector cannot cross.
16.1 Domestic regulation
- Abattoir registration and grading under the Meat Safety Act and
associated regulations. - Environmental authorisations, water-use licensing and effluent
compliance. - Municipal zoning, health and business licensing.
- Animal-welfare and transport compliance.
- Labour, occupational health and safety, and B-BBEE
compliance.
16.2 Export regulation
Export adds veterinary export accreditation, importing-country health
protocols, halaal certification recognised by the destination authority,
and export documentation and traceability requirements. The Company’s
compliance function is resourced to manage this complexity as a
permanent core capability rather than a one-off project.
