Technology, Digital Health & Innovation
The digital-health strategy, the core technology architecture, the innovation roadmap and the cybersecurity and data-protection framework.
6.1 Digital Health Strategy
Technology is not a support function within Aurelia — it is the
principal source of structural cost advantage, clinical differentiation,
and patient experience leadership over the duration of the investment
horizon. The Group will invest USD 18 million across the project
lifecycle in core digital infrastructure, deployed as a single
integrated platform from inception rather than retrofitted into legacy
systems (the principal constraint observed at established
competitors).
6.2 Core Technology Architecture
| Layer | Platform | Capability |
|---|---|---|
| Electronic Medical Record | Epic Sky / Oracle Cerner | Single longitudinal patient record across all sites |
| Revenue Cycle Management | Integrated with EMR | Automated coding, claim submission, denial management |
| Patient Engagement | AurelaConnect (proprietary) | Booking, telehealth, prescription refill, results, payments |
| AI Diagnostic Radiology | aidoc / Rapid AI | Stroke, PE, ICH, fracture, breast screening triage |
| Bed & Theatre Management | Predictive AI overlay | Real-time capacity, demand forecasting, surgical scheduling |
| Clinical Decision Support | UpToDate / FirstRand | Order sets, pathway compliance, drug interaction |
| Data Warehouse & Analytics | Snowflake / Tableau | Operational, clinical, financial dashboards |
| Cybersecurity | Microsoft Defender / SOC | 24/7 SOC, ransomware shields, identity management |
| IoT & Smart Hospital | Various | Asset tracking, environmental monitoring, smart rooms |
| Telemedicine Platform | Integrated | Specialist consult, follow-up, chronic monitoring |
6.3 Innovation Roadmap
- Years 1–2: EMR deployment, AI radiology
activation, patient portal launch, RCM automation. - Years 3–4: Predictive bed management, sepsis
early-warning, robotic surgery programme expansion, telemedicine
scaling. - Years 5–6: Chronic-disease remote monitoring at
scale, AI-augmented pathology, genomics-guided oncology. - Years 7–10: Population health analytics,
value-based contracting platform, ambient clinical documentation,
predictive readmission models.
6.4 Cybersecurity & Data Protection
Healthcare is the most-targeted sector for ransomware globally.
Aurelia’s cybersecurity posture is engineered to a tier-one
financial-institution standard, including: 24/7 Security Operations
Centre (SOC), endpoint detection & response (EDR) on all clinical
and administrative endpoints, network segmentation between clinical,
administrative, and IoT networks, immutable cloud backups with
point-in-time recovery, multi-factor authentication on all user
accounts, regular red-team and penetration testing, and POPIA-compliant
data governance. Cyber-insurance with a USD 50 million limit is budgeted
from year of opening.
