13.1 Job Creation
FreshMart will create 12 to 15 permanent jobs in Year 1, with an additional 3 to 5 positions expected by Year 3 as the business grows. At least 80% of employees will be recruited from the immediate surrounding community, with a preference for candidates from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. The business will further support informal job creation through its local supplier network, estimated to benefit 15 to 20 small-scale farmers and informal traders.
13.2 Local Economic Development
Beyond direct employment, FreshMart will contribute to local economic development through preferential procurement from local suppliers and small enterprises, investment in staff training and skills development (budgeted at 1% of payroll), sponsorship of community events, school programmes, and local sports teams (budgeted at R30,000 per annum), and payment of local taxes, rates, and levies. The business estimates that for every R1 of revenue generated, approximately R0.65 to R0.70 will recirculate within the local economy through wages, local procurement, and operating expenditure.
13.3 B-BBEE Scorecard
FreshMart is designed to achieve a Level 2 B-BBEE contributor status within the first two years of operation. As a 100% Black-owned enterprise, it will score maximum points on the ownership and management control elements. The enterprise will further invest in skills development through staff training programmes and learnerships, enterprise and supplier development through its local farmer support programme, and socio-economic development through community engagement initiatives. This B-BBEE status will be advantageous in securing procurement contracts from government institutions, corporates, and organisations with B-BBEE procurement requirements.
