9.2 Demand Analysis
South African seed potato demand is estimated at approximately 50,000–55,000 tonnes per annum, considering both certified and uncertified (farm-saved) seed. The certified seed market represents approximately 45,000 tonnes, with the balance comprising farm-saved seed that is technically non-compliant but still widely used by smaller producers.
At full capacity (6,500 tonnes per annum), Highland Elite will supply approximately 12–15% of the domestic certified seed market. This market share target is achievable given the current supply deficit and the Company’s competitive advantages.
