Section 5Do you qualify?
You must be a South African citizen, or naturalised as a South African citizen before 1994. Verification measures are specifically designed to detect fronting.

| Location | The shop must operate in a township or rural area in South Africa and serve the local community |
| Municipal registration | Registered with your local municipality under its by-laws and business licensing requirements |
| Trading permit | A valid trading licence or municipal permit. A temporary permit is acceptable |
| Owner-managed | You must actively manage and operate the shop yourself |
| SARS | Valid SARS registration, or you may be allowed a six-month transitional period |
| CIPC | Optional below R80 000. Required within six months if you receive more than R80 000 |
| SMMESA | Register on the national SMME database at smmesa.gov.za |
| Compliance | You must comply with food preparation, health and safety legislation |
