4.1 Coffee Programme

The coffee programme is the heart of Urban Bean Café. Every element—from bean selection to barista training—is designed to deliver a consistently exceptional cup. The programme is structured around three pillars: house blends, single-origin offerings, and innovative preparations.

House Blends

Two signature house blends will be developed in collaboration with a leading South African specialty roaster: a medium-roast blend optimised for espresso-based drinks (milk coffees, flat whites) and a lighter single-origin rotation for filter and pour-over preparations. All beans will carry a minimum SCA score of 82+.

Espresso-Based Menu

  • Espresso, double espresso, ristretto

  • Cappuccino, flat white, latte, cortado

  • Mocha, chai latte, hot chocolate

  • Specialty seasonal drinks (pumpkin spice, lavender honey, rooibos-infused)

Cold Beverage Programme

  • Classic and nitro cold brew (house-brewed, 18-hour steep)

  • Iced lattes and specialty iced drinks

  • Cold brew cocktails (for licensed locations)

  • Fresh fruit smoothies and cold-pressed juices

4.2 Food Menu

The food menu is designed as a full-service all-day offering that elevates Urban Bean Café beyond a traditional coffee shop. The menu architecture targets a 35–40% food cost ratio while offering perceived value that exceeds competitor pricing.

Main Meals Burgers, pasta, grain bowls, daily specials R95–R165 58–64%

4.3 Pricing Strategy

The pricing strategy positions Urban Bean Café in the upper-mid premium segment: above mainstream chains (Mugg & Bean, Seattle Coffee) but below ultra-premium independents. This creates a large addressable market while maintaining healthy gross margins.

  • Average coffee price: ZAR 38–ZAR 55

  • Average food item: ZAR 85–ZAR 150

  • Target average ticket per customer: ZAR 130

  • Blended gross margin target: 62–65%

4.4 Retail & Ancillary Revenue

To diversify revenue streams and build brand equity beyond the café walls, Urban Bean Café will develop a retail programme including packaged house-blend coffee beans (250g and 1kg bags), branded merchandise (travel mugs, tote bags), a subscription coffee delivery service, and corporate gifting hampers during festive seasons.
