7.1 Precision Agriculture
Citriona Valley Farms will deploy a suite of precision agriculture technologies designed to optimise resource utilisation, reduce input costs, and enhance fruit quality. The technology stack includes soil moisture monitoring through IoT sensor networks providing real-time data to cloud-based irrigation management platforms, drone-based aerial surveying for canopy health assessment using multispectral imaging (NDVI), variable-rate fertigation systems linked to soil analysis data, and automated weather stations feeding predictive models for pest and disease risk management.
7.2 Environmental Sustainability & ESG Framework
The Company is committed to embedding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles throughout its operations. This commitment is not merely aspirational – it is integral to maintaining export market access, securing favourable financing terms, and building long-term enterprise value. Key sustainability initiatives include:
consumption by 30–40% compared to flood irrigation. Solar-powered
pumping eliminates diesel dependency and reduces carbon emissions. A
water recycling system for packhouse effluent will be implemented by
Year 3.
biologically-oriented pest management programme prioritising beneficial
insect populations, biological control agents, and targeted application
of approved crop protection products. The goal is a 50% reduction in
synthetic chemical usage by Year 5 compared to industry benchmarks.
neutrality by Year 7 through a combination of solar energy adoption,
reduced tillage practices, cover cropping in inter-rows, and
participation in verified carbon credit programmes.
allocated to community development initiatives including local school
bursaries, farm worker housing improvements, and agricultural skills
training programmes.
7.3 B-BBEE Compliance
The Company’s ownership structure, with majority Black ownership (40% Daniel Mokoena plus 10% Employee Trust = 50% Black-owned), qualifies the enterprise for favourable B-BBEE scoring. This facilitates access to government procurement opportunities, export incentives, and preferential financing from development finance institutions such as the Land Bank, IDC, and NEF.
