8.1 Production Risks

Dryland wheat farming is inherently exposed to rainfall variability and climate-related production risks. The Company will mitigate these through multi-peril crop insurance (MPCI) underwritten by a reputable agricultural insurer, a diversified crop rotation programme, soil moisture conservation practices (including no-till and mulching), and cultivar selection optimised for the Swartland’s specific agro-ecological conditions.

8.2 Market and Price Risks

Commodity price volatility will be managed through a structured hedging programme on SAFEX, forward-delivery contracts with millers, and a blended marketing calendar that avoids concentration of sales at harvest-time price lows. The on-farm storage capacity provides optionality to defer sales when basis spreads are unfavourable.

8.3 Operational Risks

Operational risks, including equipment failure, labour availability, and input supply disruption, will be addressed through comprehensive maintenance schedules, relationships with multiple input suppliers, skilled permanent and seasonal labour contracting, and business interruption insurance coverage.

8.4 Regulatory and Policy Risks

Changes to the wheat import tariff, land reform policy, or environmental regulations could impact the Company’s operating environment. The management team will maintain active engagement with industry bodies such as Grain SA and the Agricultural Business Chamber of South Africa (Agbiz), monitor policy developments, and maintain a flexible operational structure that can adapt to regulatory changes.
