GreenPulse operates a lean, technology-driven operational model with headquarters in Bryanston (Gauteng) and a satellite office in Stellenbosch (Western Cape). Our operational strategy centres on maintaining a capital-light footprint while ensuring reliable service delivery across South Africa’s geographically dispersed agricultural regions.

7.1 Operational Structure

GreenPulse operates a lean, technology-driven operational model with headquarters in Bryanston (Gauteng) and a satellite office in Stellenbosch (Western Cape). Our operational strategy centres on maintaining a capital-light footprint while ensuring reliable service delivery across South Africa’s geographically dispersed agricultural regions.

7.2 Supply Chain & Manufacturing

Sensor hardware is manufactured through a contract manufacturing partnership with Altron subsidiary, based in Centurion, Gauteng. This arrangement provides access to SABS-certified facilities, quality management systems (ISO 9001:2015), and scalable production capacity without the capital expenditure of establishing our own manufacturing line.

Key components are sourced from a diversified supplier base: microcontrollers from STMicroelectronics (through Arrow Electronics SA), LoRaWAN modules from Semtech (through RS Components SA), and solar panels from a Port Elizabeth-based manufacturer. We maintain 90 days of safety stock for critical components to mitigate supply chain disruption risks.

7.3 Service Delivery

Field operations are delivered through a hub-and-spoke model with regional hubs in Bloemfontein (Free State), Nelspruit (Mpumalanga), and Pietermaritzburg (KwaZulu-Natal), each staffed with a field technician and agronomist. Sensor installation, maintenance, and on-site consulting are scheduled in regional circuits to optimise travel costs and response times. Our target is next-business-day response for critical sensor failures and 72-hour resolution for routine support tickets.

7.4 Quality Assurance

All sensor hardware undergoes three-stage quality testing: incoming component inspection, in-process manufacturing checks, and final assembly testing including a 48-hour environmental stress test simulating South African field conditions (temperature cycling from -5°C to 55°C, humidity exposure, and vibration testing). Software releases follow a continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline with automated testing, staging environment validation, and phased rollouts to minimise risk of service disruption.

7.6 Infrastructure & Load Shedding Resilience

South Africa’s ongoing energy challenges (load shedding) present both a risk and an opportunity for GreenPulse. Our entire technology stack has been designed with energy resilience as a core requirement. All field sensor hardware is solar-powered with battery backup providing 72 hours of operation without sunlight. Our cloud infrastructure on Azure South Africa benefits from Microsoft’s generator-backed data centres with guaranteed 99.99% uptime SLAs.

Our Bryanston headquarters is equipped with a 50kVA Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and a diesel generator capable of sustaining full operations during extended load shedding events. The Stellenbosch office operates on a solar + battery micro-grid installed in partnership with a local renewable energy provider. Employee remote working policies enable continued productivity during severe load shedding periods, with all critical systems accessible via mobile devices.

For our farming customers, the solar-powered sensor network is a significant selling point in a country where rural electrification remains incomplete. Approximately 12% of commercial farming areas in South Africa have unreliable grid electricity, and our solar-powered sensors eliminate dependency on grid power entirely.

7.7 Data Centre & Security Infrastructure

GreenPulse operates a primary data environment in Azure South Africa North (Johannesburg) with disaster recovery failover to Azure South Africa West (Cape Town). This dual-region deployment ensures both high availability and compliance with POPIA’s requirement that personal information of South African data subjects be processed within the country’s borders.

Data security architecture includes network-level protection through Azure Firewall and DDoS Protection Standard, application-level security through Web Application Firewall (WAF) and API Management Gateway, data-level protection through Azure SQL Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) and Azure Key Vault for secrets management, and identity management through Azure Active Directory B2C with multi-factor authentication for all platform users.

The company maintains a comprehensive Information Security Management System (ISMS) aligned with ISO 27001 standards, with formal certification targeted for Q2 2027. Annual penetration testing is conducted by an independent CREST-certified South African cybersecurity firm, with the first assessment completed in Q4 2025 resulting in no critical findings.

7.8 Customer Support Operations

GreenPulse’s customer support function operates on a tiered model designed to maximise customer satisfaction while maintaining operational efficiency. Tier 1 support (general enquiries, account management, basic troubleshooting) is handled by our in-house support team based in Bryanston, operating Monday to Friday 07:00–18:00 SAST, with emergency out-of-hours support available for Enterprise customers. Tier 2 support (technical issues, data queries, integration support) is handled by our engineering team. Tier 3 support (critical system failures, data recovery) escalates to the CTO’s office with a target response time of 30 minutes.

Support channels include telephone (dedicated South African toll-free number), email, in-app chat (powered by our AI-assisted chatbot for immediate query resolution), and WhatsApp Business (recognising that WhatsApp is the dominant messaging platform among South African farmers). Our target customer satisfaction score (CSAT) is 4.5/5.0, benchmarked against leading B2B SaaS companies in the South African market.
