12.2 Emerging Farmer Programme

GreenPulse has designed a dedicated programme for emerging and smallholder farmers, funded through a combination of enterprise development spend (3% of net profit after tax), grant partnerships with the DALRRD, and cross-subsidisation from commercial customer revenues. The programme includes subsidised sensor packages (up to 70% discount), free platform access for the first 12 months, on-site training in local languages, and integration with CASP grant application processes.

By Year 5, we target 500 emerging farmer cooperatives on the platform, representing approximately 15,000 individual smallholder farmers. This initiative directly supports the National Development Plan’s goal of creating one million new jobs in agriculture by 2030.

12.3 Environmental Impact

GreenPulse’s technology delivers measurable environmental benefits that align with South Africa’s climate commitments under the Paris Agreement and the country’s National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy:

  • Water Conservation: Precision irrigation scheduling has demonstrated 25–35% water savings in pilot deployments, critical for a water-scarce country where agriculture consumes 60% of fresh water resources.

  • Reduced Chemical Inputs: AI-driven pest and disease detection enables targeted, rather than blanket, pesticide application, reducing chemical usage by an estimated 20–40%.

  • Carbon Footprint Tracking: Our platform includes a carbon accounting module that helps farmers measure, report, and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, positioning them for future carbon credit markets.

  • Soil Health: Continuous soil monitoring and data-driven fertiliser recommendations prevent over-application and support long-term soil health and biodiversity.

12.4 Job Creation

GreenPulse will directly employ 70 people by Year 5, with at least 75% being previously disadvantaged South Africans. Additionally, our training programmes will create employment opportunities for approximately 200 agricultural technology specialists across the country, establishing a new category of skilled agricultural workers.
