A full-service forecourt integrating fuel retail with a convenience store, creating 24–28 jobs in Gauteng.
7.1 Site and Facility Design
The station will be designed and constructed to meet the franchise oil company’s current design standards and all applicable South African National Standards (SANS) for petroleum installations. The facility will be purpose-built on a site of approximately 2,500 to 3,500 square metres with the following key design elements:
-
Forecourt: 4 pump islands with 8 multi-product dispensers (petrol 93, petrol 95, diesel 50ppm, diesel 500ppm), including 1 high-flow diesel island for commercial vehicles
-
Underground Storage: 4 double-skinned fibre-reinforced underground storage tanks (2x 46,000L petrol, 1x 46,000L diesel, 1x 23,000L diesel) with interstitial leak detection systems
-
Canopy: Full-width steel canopy with oil company branding, LED lighting, and drainage collection system
-
Convenience Store: 80 to 100 square metre air-conditioned retail space with branded fascia, walk-in cooler, heated food display, and self-service coffee station
-
Car Wash: Single-bay automated rollover wash system with pre-wash, foam, high-pressure rinse, wax, and air-dry cycles
-
Parking: Minimum 15 customer parking bays, including 2 disabled access bays, plus dedicated truck/commercial vehicle stopping area
-
Services: Tyre air and water station, dual ATM installation, ablution facilities (accessible), office space, and staff facilities
-
Safety: Comprehensive fire suppression system, CCTV (minimum 16 cameras), perimeter lighting, panic buttons, and direct armed response link
7.2 Operating Hours
The station will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. The convenience store will operate from 05:00 to 23:00 daily, with overnight fuel sales managed through a secure night-service window. The car wash will operate from 07:00 to 18:00 Monday to Saturday, and 08:00 to 16:00 on Sundays. 24-hour operation maximises revenue capture from late-night commuters, long-distance travellers, and commercial fleet vehicles operating on overnight schedules.
7.3 Fuel Supply and Inventory Management
Fuel will be supplied exclusively by the franchise oil company through scheduled tanker deliveries, typically 2 to 3 times per week depending on throughput. Tank levels will be monitored continuously through an automated tank gauging (ATG) system that provides real-time inventory visibility and automated reorder alerts when stock reaches predetermined minimum levels. The target maximum days of inventory is 5 to 7 days, balancing supply security against working capital efficiency. Strict reconciliation protocols will be implemented, with daily dip-and-meter readings, weekly volumetric reconciliation, and monthly comprehensive stock audits. The target fuel loss tolerance is less than 0.15% (1,500 parts per million), well within the industry acceptable range.
7.4 Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)
PetroStation SA will implement a comprehensive HSE management system aligned with the oil company franchise partner’s requirements and all applicable South African legislation:
-
Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993): Full compliance with workplace safety, hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident reporting requirements
-
National Environmental Management Act (NEMA): Environmental management programme including spill prevention, groundwater monitoring, and contaminated site management
-
SANS 10089: Compliance with the South African standard for the installation and maintenance of underground storage tanks for petroleum products
-
Fire safety: Compliance with SANS 10131 (fire protection of petroleum storage), fire extinguisher placement, emergency evacuation procedures, and annual fire safety audits
-
Hazardous chemical management: Safe storage and handling of lubricants, cleaning chemicals, and other hazardous materials in accordance with the Hazardous Chemical Substances Regulations
