ESG & Sustainability
The social impact, the environmental strategy, the governance and the alignment with national priorities underpinning GrainCore.
Environmental, social, and governance performance is integral to
GrainCore’s strategy and is a prerequisite for development-finance
capital. The framework below aligns commercial and developmental
objectives.
13.1 Social Impact
- Rural farmer procurement programmes that integrate emerging and
commercial farmers into the supply chain. - Employment creation — approximately 320 direct jobs at full ramp,
plus indirect agricultural and logistics employment. - Food affordability — efficient, low-cost milling supports
accessible staple-food pricing. - Nutritional fortification contributing to public-health
outcomes.
13.2 Environmental Strategy
- Solar-assisted milling to reduce grid dependence and energy cost
(and load-shedding exposure). - Energy-efficient motors and drives across the plant.
- Water-recycling systems in cleaning and conditioning.
- Grain-waste and by-product valorisation toward a zero-waste
operation.
13.3 Governance
- Food-traceability systems from intake to dispatch.
- Supplier audits and responsible-sourcing standards.
- Independent-majority board with Audit & Risk and Social &
Ethics committees. - Transparent compliance management and reporting to lenders and
DFIs.
13.4 Alignment with National Priorities
The project aligns directly with South African food-security
objectives, industrialisation and localisation policy, agricultural
value-chain development, and job creation — the precise mandates of the
development-finance institutions identified as target funders in Section
20.
