Strategic Locations & Footprint

The strategic locations and footprint — the flagship mill, silos and satellite depots anchoring GrainCore in Gauteng.

Location strategy balances proximity to grain supply, proximity to
demand, and access to logistics corridors. The reference operator’s
footprint spans South Africa, Mozambique, and Eswatini to optimise
regional supply — a template for GrainCore’s phased geographic
expansion.

Phase Location Rationale Timing
Phase 1 Gauteng (flagship mill) Largest consumer market; central logistics; proximity to maize belt Months 0–24
Phase 2 KwaZulu-Natal (export hub) Durban port access for exports; coastal demand; bakery integration Months 30–40
Phase 3 SADC / Mozambique corridor Regional export, drought-driven demand, cross-border distribution Months 36+

Table 8.1 — Phased location and footprint strategy.

Gauteng is selected for the flagship because it combines the
country’s densest consumer market, central road and rail logistics, and
reasonable proximity to the Free State, Mpumalanga, and North West
maize-producing regions. KwaZulu-Natal follows to capture Durban port
access for both wheat imports and finished-goods exports, and to support
bakery integration on the coast.
