Sector Deep-Dive & Statistics

A statistical deep-dive into the sector — export volume and value benchmarks, citrus category detail, table-grape regional and varietal detail and the logistics economics.

This section consolidates the quantitative evidence supporting the
market opportunity, drawing on the most recent industry data
available.

3A.1 Export Volume & Value Benchmarks

Metric Figure Period / source basis
Total fresh fruit exports 4.2 million tonnes 2024 (+2.1% YoY)
Ten-year fresh fruit export CAGR ~3.7% p.a. 2014–2024
Citrus exports (record) 203.4 million cartons 2025 (+22% YoY)
Table grape exports (record) 415,565 tonnes 2024 (+30% YoY)
Fruit & nut export value US$2.7 billion H1 2025 (+13.3% YoY)
Citrus share of fruit export value ~50–61% 2024–2025
EU share of fruit & nut export value 38% H1 2025
Vision 260 citrus target 260 million cartons by 2032
Potential new citrus jobs (Vision 260) 100,000 by 2032

3A.2 Citrus — Category Detail

The 2025 citrus season set records across nearly every category:
Valencia oranges reached 61.8 million cartons, mandarins grew 28% to
53.5 million cartons, lemons rose 26% to 41.3 million cartons, navel
oranges increased 25% to 31.5 million cartons, and grapefruit rose 7% to
15.3 million cartons. Growth was driven by favourable weather and the
maturation of young trees — a dynamic the Company’s own plantings will
replicate as they come into bearing.

Citrus category 2025 cartons (m) YoY change
Valencia oranges 61.8 +27%
Mandarins (soft citrus) 53.5 +28%
Lemons 41.3 +26%
Navel oranges 31.5 +25%
Grapefruit 15.3 +7%
Total citrus 203.4 +22%

3A.3 Table Grapes — Regional & Varietal Detail

The Orange River region produces close to a third of national
table-grape volume and is the earliest to harvest. National plantings
have shifted decisively toward licensed seedless varieties, with the top
five cultivars accounting for roughly half of all hectares. Over 75% of
South African table grapes ship to Europe, with Canada an outsized
growth market (around 24% per year over the decade). This varietal and
destination profile directly shapes the Company’s grape strategy.

3A.4 Logistics Economics

Logistics inefficiency is the sector’s most quantified operational
risk. The Bureau for Food and Agricultural Policy estimates the cost of
inefficient logistics to the citrus industry alone at approximately
R5.27 billion per year. The Port of Cape Town recorded over 400 hours of
wind-related delays in the 2025 season. The Company’s multi-port
routing, cold-storage buffering and reefer-plug planning are designed
specifically to insulate its supply chain from these systemic
constraints — and its own cold-chain division converts part of this
challenge into a third-party revenue opportunity.
