12.1 Environmental Stewardship
Water efficiency is the Company’s most material environmental issue
and a core element of its competitiveness. Investment in drip
irrigation, on-farm storage, soil-moisture telemetry and water-efficient
cultivars reduces consumption per tonne of fruit and builds resilience
against drought-driven water curtailment. The Company will pursue
carbon- and water-footprint accreditation increasingly required by
premium retailers.
12.2 Social Impact & Transformation
As a substantial rural employer, the Company’s social programmes —
worker share ownership, training academies, housing and scholarships —
advance South Africa’s transformation and rural-development objectives
while strengthening workforce stability and the Company’s B-BBEE
profile. These programmes also align the enterprise with the mandates of
the development-finance institutions identified as funding partners.
12.3 Governance
A King IV-aligned governance framework, independent board oversight,
and audit-risk and social-ethics committees underpin disciplined capital
allocation, transparent reporting and ethical operations — essential for
both lender confidence and premium-market supply relationships.
