10.2 Production Process

  1. Chick Sourcing: Day-old chicks procured from SAPA-certified hatcheries (e.g., Astral or National Chick) with genetic lines selected for free-range suitability.

  2. Brooding Phase (Days 1–21): Indoor brooding in climate-controlled housing with heat lamps, starter feed, and continuous veterinary monitoring. Vaccination protocols administered per SAPA guidelines.

  3. Free-Range Phase (Days 22–56): Birds transition to outdoor paddocks with access to natural grazing, supplementary feed stations, and shelter structures. Minimum outdoor space of 1 square metre per bird.

  4. Harvesting and Processing: Birds transported to a certified poultry abattoir for processing under HACCP and SAMIC protocols. Dressed birds chilled to 0–4°C within 2 hours of slaughter.
