16.1 Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
A cloud-based ERP system will serve as the operational backbone, integrating production planning, inventory management, procurement, sales order processing, financial accounting, and human resources. The selected ERP will be configured for apparel-specific requirements including style-colour-size (SCS) matrix management, bill of materials for garment construction, production scheduling with capacity constraints, and real-time inventory tracking across raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
The ERP investment of R1.5 million encompasses software licensing, implementation consulting, data migration, user training, and first-year support. The system will be operational prior to the commencement of pilot production, ensuring that all transactions from day one are captured in the integrated platform.
16.2 Production Technology
The manufacturing floor will be equipped with Industry 4.0 capabilities including Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems for pattern creation, grading, and marker making. Automated fabric cutting using CNC technology will reduce material waste to below 15% and improve cutting accuracy to within 1mm tolerance. Barcode-based tracking will monitor each production order through every stage from cutting to dispatch, enabling real-time production reporting and bottleneck identification.
16.3 E-Commerce Technology Stack
The direct-to-consumer e-commerce platform will be built on Shopify Plus, selected for its scalability, payment gateway integration with South African providers (PayFast, Peach Payments), and native mobile responsiveness. The platform will integrate with the ERP for real-time inventory synchronisation and automated order fulfilment workflows. Additional integrations include Takealot Marketplace API for multi-channel selling, Google Analytics and Meta Pixel for marketing attribution, and an automated email marketing platform for customer lifecycle management.
16.4 Cybersecurity & Data Protection
In compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), Zama Clothing will implement comprehensive data protection measures including encrypted data storage and transmission, role-based access controls, regular penetration testing, employee cybersecurity awareness training, and incident response procedures. A Data Protection Officer will be appointed to oversee POPIA compliance across all business operations.
