HelioForge is, at its core, an ESG business: it exists to displace diesel and unreliable grid power with clean, locally manufactured renewable energy, and to build South African industrial capability and jobs while doing so. The ESG framework is therefore not an overlay but the substance of the investment thesis, which is precisely why it aligns with the mandates of the IDC, DBSA, AfDB and climate-infrastructure funders.

Environmental impact

• Carbon reduction — every installed megawatt displaces coal-grid and diesel-generator emissions.
• Diesel displacement — solar-plus-storage replaces expensive, polluting standby diesel for C&I and mining customers.
• Renewable infrastructure — the Group builds the manufacturing and installation base for South Africa’s energy transition.

Social impact and localisation

The social case is the localisation case. Local manufacturing creates approximately 600 direct jobs across manufacturing, engineering, installation, sales and technical roles, alongside a much larger indirect installer network scaling toward 800 partners. Skills transfer, youth technical training and installer-development programmes, supported by the in-house training academy, build the human capital the sector needs, and address South African industrialisation and youth-unemployment priorities directly.

Governance

Governance is anchored in B-BBEE compliance, a strong audit framework and ESG reporting standards. The Group will report against recognised ESG metrics from the outset, carbon displaced, jobs created, local content, skills transferred, both because funders require it and because that data is itself a commercial asset in tenders and PPAs where local content and impact are scored.
