The Integrated Energy Platform

HelioForge operates across five integrated business lines of a single renewable-energy value chain. Each line adds value and reinforces the others, the factory supplies the EPC division, the EPC division pulls through storage and distribution, and utility-scale relationships anchor volume, together converting imported cells and components into locally manufactured, installed and supported energy systems. The following profiles set out each line’s role, activities and outputs.

LINE 1 Solar PV Manufacturing

Locally assembled, certified modules

The manufacturing line assembles Mono PERC, N-Type high-efficiency, utility-scale bifacial, rooftop commercial and agricultural solar modules at a 350MW-per-year facility (expanding to 750MW) in the Durban Industrial Zone. Modules are internationally certified, quality-tested in-house, and sold through wholesale distribution, utility-scale project supply, installer partnerships and export. Local assembly is the strategic foundation: it unlocks domestic-content procurement eligibility, provides local warranty and support, and shortens lead times versus imports.

  • Products: Mono PERC, N-Type, bifacial utility, rooftop commercial and agricultural modules.
  • Channels: wholesale distribution, utility-scale supply, installer partnerships, SADC export.

Controlling manufacturing is the heart of the integration thesis, and its principal risk. Local assembly captures margin and unlocks procurement eligibility, but it competes directly with deeply discounted imported modules; the manufacturing margin is therefore the variable the whole plan must defend, through certification, local support, content-rule eligibility and the pull-through of the EPC and storage lines.

LINE 2 EPC & Turnkey Solutions

Design, install, commission

The EPC line delivers turnkey solar and storage projects: commercial installations, industrial solar plants, mining solar infrastructure, agricultural systems and battery-storage integration. Target customers span mines, factories, farms, shopping centres, schools, hospitals and logistics parks. EPC is the highest-value, most defensible line, it pulls through HelioForge’s own modules and batteries, captures engineering and installation margin, and builds long-term service and monitoring relationships.

  • Services: commercial, industrial, mining and agricultural solar; battery-storage integration; O&M.
  • Customers: mines, factories, farms, retail centres, schools, hospitals, logistics parks.

EPC converts manufactured product into installed, revenue-generating systems, the classic vertical-integration dividend. It lifts realised value per megawatt well above bare-module sales, it is far less exposed to import competition than commodity module supply, and it opens the recurring monitoring and maintenance revenue that underpins a premium exit valuation.

LINE 3 Battery Energy Storage (BESS)

Resilience for an unstable grid

The BESS line delivers commercial backup systems, hybrid solar-plus-storage, grid-stabilisation and industrial microgrids, supported by a dedicated battery-assembly facility. As South African businesses seek protection from grid instability, battery attachment has become standard, battery attachment reached roughly two-thirds of new residential solar installations, making storage one of the fastest-growing and highest-margin segments of the market.

  • Solutions: commercial backup, hybrid solar storage, grid stabilisation, industrial microgrids.
  • Driver: grid instability and resilience demand across C&I, mining and residential customers.

Storage is counter-cyclical to module deflation: as panels cheapen, the economics of pairing them with batteries improve, and the storage attach rate rises. Local battery assembly diversifies the Group beyond the commoditising module market into a higher-margin, faster-growing, resilience-driven segment.

LINE 4 Renewable Energy Distribution

Inverters, batteries, balance-of-system

The distribution line supplies inverters, lithium batteries, mounting systems, EV-charging systems, hybrid inverters and monitoring software to the installer market. Distribution provides volume, market intelligence and installer relationships, and gives HelioForge a channel to the broader rooftop and C&I market beyond its own EPC projects.

  • Products: inverters, lithium batteries, mounting, EV charging, hybrid inverters, monitoring software.
  • Channel: national installer network, EPC partners, direct industrial sales.

Distribution is the market-access layer. It is thinner-margin than EPC or storage, but it builds the installer relationships that pull through modules and batteries, provides real-time demand signal, and creates the national footprint on which the higher-margin lines depend.

LINE 5 Utility-Scale Partnerships

IPPs, funds, municipalities, mines

The utility-scale line partners with independent power producers (IPPs), infrastructure funds, municipal energy projects and mining groups to supply modules and balance-of-system into large ground-mounted and embedded-generation projects. Utility-scale is where local-content eligibility matters most, government procurement under the REIPPPP and private PPAs increasingly favour local manufacturing, and where HelioForge’s domestic production converts directly into contracted volume.

  • Partners: IPPs, infrastructure funds, municipal energy projects, mining groups.
  • Advantage: local-content eligibility under REIPPPP and private-PPA procurement rules.

Utility-scale partnerships anchor large, contracted volume for the factory and validate the local-manufacturing thesis at scale. As South Africa tenders multiple gigawatts of solar under the IRP, a certified local manufacturer with content-rule eligibility is positioned to capture supply share that pure importers cannot.
