SRD Payment Dates and How to Avoid Grant Scams
SRD payments run last, in rolling batches near the end of the month. Your date is not the same as your neighbour’s, and no legitimate person can move you up the queue.
PaymentWhen the SRD grant is paid
The permanent grants — older persons, disability, children — are paid in the first week of the month. SRD money is released afterwards, in rolling batches.
Check your own payment date on the portal each month rather than assuming a fixed day. Public holidays shift everything forward.
Where the money goes
- Your own bank account — Capitec, FNB, Absa, Nedbank, Standard Bank, TymeBank and others. Fastest and safest.
- Postbank black card — draw at any ATM or at a till.
- Cash at a retail till — Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer, Spar. Wait for the SMS before travelling.
The Post Office no longer pays these grants directly.
Card swapThe gold card deadline: 31 August 2026
If your grant is paid onto an old gold SASSA card, you must swap it before the end of August 2026. Postbank has confirmed the deadline will not be extended, and cards still active on 1 September will be permanently blocked.
Your grant itself is not affected — the money will still be there. You simply will not be able to draw it until you collect the new card.
The swap is free and takes minutes. If you cannot travel because of age or disability, a registered procurator can collect on your behalf.
ScamsProtecting yourself from SASSA scams
The grant is free. Every step of it. Nobody can move you up a queue, unlock a blocked grant, or approve an appeal for a fee — because no such power exists.
SASSA and Postbank will never ask for your OTP, PIN or card number, and there are no forms to sign for a card swap.
