ESG & Development Impact
The financial-inclusion, SME-enablement, social, environmental and governance contribution and the development impact underpinning Nexora.
The investment case is squarely aligned with DFI mandates. By FY2031
the platform serves 350,000 SMEs, enterprises that collectively employ,
on conservative SA averages of 4–6 employees per formal SME, well over
one million people. Access to working capital is among the
highest-leverage interventions for employment retention in the SA
economy.
- Financial inclusion: unsecured, data-based
underwriting extends formal credit to collateral-poor businesses,
including township and women-owned enterprises historically excluded by
security-led models; the plan targets 40% women-owned or -led SMEs in
the portfolio by FY2031. - SDG alignment: SDG 8 (decent work), SDG 9
(industry & innovation) and SDG 10 (reduced inequalities) map
directly; impact KPIs are reported quarterly in the investor
pack. - Governance: independent-majority board, Social
& Ethics committee, model-governance policy and responsible-lending
standards exceeding NCA minimums (no debit-order stacking,
affordability-first limits, transparent single-fee pricing). - Environment: a digital-only model with
negligible direct footprint; green-asset finance (solar, efficient
equipment) is a natural Year-3+ product extension aligned to DFI climate
windows.
For IFC, DBSA, IDC, FMO and AfDB participation specifically, the
structure offers both entry points these institutions use: equity into
OpCo for platform upside, and senior or mezzanine participation in the
warehouse for asset-backed exposure with measurable SME-reach covenants,
mirroring the FMO/IFC pattern already established with Lula.
